Rail vs. Car
There are European railpasses of many flavors these days; one country, several counties, varying lengths. In comparing those with the cost of renting a car, there's really no contest. The car, even with insurance maxed out, would be around $600 for the rental period, plus about $300 for gas. Rail tickets for adjoining 5 countries are about $550 apiece, and we'd still have to rent a car in some places to see what we want to see, especially in places like Hungary and Poland. We'll probably agree to stick with rental at our next Opal's meeting.
