TMEA Planning, Pt. 2

I had about 3 hours to kill between TMEA concerts, so I took my Rick Steves books, maps, and the netbook and sequestered myself in the bowels of the Grant Hyatt in San Antonio.

Read up on Int'l Drivers License, which Rick recomments, rental car insurance...what to watch out for, like that...and read some of the convoluted history of the Eastern European region we plan to visit. Seems like once you get outside touristed areas, roads are questionable at best.

BUT....Americans are evidently a precious commodity, too. Outside large cities we're a rare breed. Everyone there has been learning English since the fall of the "Iron Curtain", so there is now a whole generation of people who speak English well. I don't think we'll have trouble getting around.

I guess our next big goal is to figure out whether we go clockwise or counter-clockwise out of Passau. I should also pick up an updated Rick Steve's Eastern Europe, too. Outdated pricing and directions will get us in trouble!
